Bethesda has finally revealed a name to the next Elder Scrolls game. A teaser released on 3 November 2026, during the studio’s 40th anniversary celebration, confirmed the title as The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel.
The reveal almost completely settled a question that players debated for years: the game will take place in Hammerfell.
According to Eurogamer, the official name was announced eight years, four months, and 23 days after the game was first announced. The footage and accompanying lore offer details about the setting and its history.
Returning to Hammerfell
The landscape in the original announcement and a map teaser in 2021 had suggested Hammerfell. Sentinel is one of nine major kingdoms in the region of Hammerfell and also the name of the province’s modern capital.
Sentinel is associated with the Forebears, one of Hammerfell’s political factions. The province means players will be in desert terrain, with a history shaped by conflict with neighbouring parts of Tamriel.
The Elder Scrolls is the type of series where players invest hundreds of others into each edition, which goes some way to explaining the clamour for details. This is in great contrast, of course, to pick-up-and-play games like jackpot games online. Casino players should set deposit limits and use self-exclusion options where appropriate, regardless of whether it seems like casual gaming.
A story set after Skyrim
The teaser includes a passage attributed to Yazar, Moth Priest to High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell. The text is dated 4E 206. Skyrim took place in 4E 201. So the passage is dated five years after the previous main game.
The reference to a High Queen is notable, because Hammerfell hasn’t had a single High King or Queen since Thassad II was killed by the Forebears in 2E 862. So the province’s political structure seems to have changed in the years following the Great War.
Moth Priests belong to the Cult of the Ancestor Moth, whose members study the Elder Scrolls and gradually lose their sight. The teaser’s language about a lost future, an undone victory and time scattered by fate has prompted speculation that the Scrolls themselves could feature more directly.
Fans have raised the possibility of another Dragon Break, a time disruption that makes conflicting outcomes part of history. That’s just speculation for now; Bethesda has revealed no plot summary or gameplay features to support it.
Release plans and confirmed appearance
Bethesda has not announced a release date or a platform list. Journalist Jason Schreier has reported that the game is still at least two years away, so the title reveal doesn’t seem to be a sign that the game is close.
One cast member is already known. Shirley Curry, the 90-year-old widely recognised by players as Skyrim grandma for her long-running videos, will appear as an NPC. Bethesda confirmed the appearance after a fan petition on Change.org prompted by Curry’s concern that she might be able to play the sequel.
Sentinel now has a title, setting and historical context. Fans are waiting for a fuller look at the game. Eurogamer will keep Elder Scrolls players up to date.
