More than a year before the release of GTA VI, publications were speculating on whether the new game would include a casino.
With Vice City serving as the setting, it seemed possible. Inspired by Miami, it seemed natural enough that the fictional city might include luxury hotels, nightlife and gambling venues. Rockstar Games had given players a taste of casino entertainment in GTA Online, where the Diamond Casino & Resort was added in 2019.
Fans on the GTA subreddit had long wondered whether, and in what location, Rockstar might include gambling in the new game. By November 2025, speculation about GTA VI had gathered pace (as if it didn’t have enough steam already). A PSX Extreme article examined leaks and rumours suggesting that Rockstar might take the concept further than it had in GTA V.
Why the Diamond Casino fuelled speculation
The Diamond Casino & Resort introduced slot machines, roulette, blackjack, three-card poker and horse racing wagers to GTA Online.
Some reports suggested that GTA VI could feature a more developed casino environment, potentially incorporating property ownership, VIP lounges and missions connected to gambling venues.
There was also speculation about whether casino winnings could influence a character’s wealth, assets or standing in Vice City. Those features would fit the franchise’s fascination with money, property and lifestyle, but no confirmed details supported the speculation.
Rockstar’s silence
In the months leading up to release, the casino question was still being asked. PSU revisited the subject in August, but noted that Rockstar hadn’t officially confirmed any casino, slot machines or gambling mechanics.
The publication highlighted a job listing seeking experience with gambling mechanics, which fans had interpreted as a possible indication of casino-related development. That staff member would likely know about table games and all manner of casino offerings, such as jackpot slots, which tie slots to a progressive jackpot.
The rumours about casino properties remained unverified. There was no official confirmation that these ideas had made it into the game.
Gambling mechanics and regional restrictions
The possibility of gambling raised questions about regulation. GTA’s casino activities had used fictional in-game currency rather than functioning as conventional real-money gambling services.
Gambling laws differ between countries and must be treated carefully. Rockstar would have needed to consider age ratings and regional restrictions when designing any casino features, particularly if the mechanics closely resembled real-world gambling.
PSXE pointed to the psychological effects of realistic gambling systems, including variable rewards, near-misses and jackpot-style payouts. Even when players used virtual currency, these mechanics could raise concerns for people vulnerable to gambling-related harm.
Licensed platforms often provide responsible gambling tools and link to organisations that offer free help to customers who feel they might have a problem.
Why GTA 6 was arguably the most anticipated game ever
Few games have ever generated anticipation on the scale of GTA VI. Its predecessor, GTA V, arrived way back in 2013, which only made players more excited when news and rumours came about the new game. The previous title sold over 200 million copies.
Rockstar’s first trailer for GTA VI, released in December 2023, racked up over 90 million YouTube views in 24 hours, setting a record for a non-music video debut. The second trailer got 475 million views across platforms in its first 24 hours.
The combination of Rockstar’s reputation, the lengthy wait and gigantic global audience made GTA VI a cultural event. Players will have more to explore than ever – Rockstar says the new game’s map is almost as big as the previous two GTAs and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined. Co-studio lead Aaron Garbut says every single location is “densely detailed”.
